When the Battle Comes
Deuteronomy 20:1 (NKJV)“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
Notice the first word: “When”. God does not say if you face a battle, but when. A Next Level Life is not a trouble-free life. Growth attracts resistance, new territory presents new challenges, and greater assignments demand greater faith. Israel faced enemies because they were moving toward promise. Their battle was not proof that God had abandoned them; it was evidence that they were advancing. Sometimes resistance appears precisely because you have decided not to remain where you were.
Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Your confidence is not that every day will be easy, but that Christ has already overcome. The battle may touch your family, finances, health, calling, career, relationships, or future, but it cannot remove God from your story. Even mistakes and embarrassing moments can become testimonies of grace. Do not allow one difficult chapter to convince you that the story is finished. In every battle, God has a way forward. What confronts you today may become the ground where tomorrow’s victory is celebrated.
Identify one battle you have interpreted as a reason to retreat. Write it down and place Deuteronomy 20:1 beside it. Ask, “God, how do You want me to advance through this?” Then take one practical step forward today instead of withdrawing.
Father, give me courage when battles come. Teach me to advance knowing You are with me and turn every battle into a place where my faith grows stronger. Amen.
